NORTH MYRTLE BEACH FIRE/RESCUE TRAINING DIVISION

Training Division:

The North Myrtle Beach Fire/Rescue (NMBFR) Training Division strives to provide the highest quality training and instruction for all department personnel. The goal is to prepare Firefighters to serve our community in the most efficient and effective means possible, and to ensure firefighter safety as they deliver their service to the public.

North Myrtle Beach Fire/Rescue Training Center

The NMBFR Training Center is located at the NMB City Municipal Complex at 2nd Avenue South. Our department is able to use this facility to meet many fire service training requirements.

Within the Training Center is a three-story masonry training/burn building. This facility enables training for both recruit and veteran fire fighters in various skills including live fire training, aerial and engine driver/operator drills, and fire fighter survival skills.  Other features of the NMBFR Training Center include a drafting cistern, confined space rescue prop, a 4-story rappelling tower, and a firefighter survival-training simulator.

The NMBFR Training Division also has training rooms at Stations #1 and #5 that can hold up to 25 students each. These classrooms have dedicated multimedia video/audio systems as well as internet access allowing great diversity in course presentation method. The training room at Station #1 is also equipped with a small computer lab enabling personnel to complete web-based training from such agencies as FEMA and the US Fire Administration. This computer lab is also a resource for personnel who may be taking college-level classes through various internet-based university programs.

NMBFR In-Service Training Program

In-service training is provided to department personnel to improve and maintain basic skills and knowledge. NFPA Standards, ISO training recommendations, evolution of new techniques, and liability concerns are considered when selecting instruction programs.

In-Service training includes basic firefighter skills review, engine and aerial driver/operator training, company officer development, hazardous materials operations, aircraft rescue and firefighting, and hurricane preparedness training.

In 2007, NMBFR Training Division personnel provided well over 1,000 hours of instruction to department personnel. In addition to weekly In-Service training the division also provided numerous South Carolina Fire Academy courses.
